There is something that ticks me off. Here it is: The shooting at Columbine. Yes, the shootings ticked me off. But, something that got under my skin was that people blamed Marilyn Manson for this tragedy. That because these boys listened to his music- they decide to walk into school and decide to blast their schoolmates and teachers with a 9mm. I know when things like this happen and people are grieving, they need someone to blame- something to point fingers at. But really, are we going to blame it on Marilyn Manson?
If so; I’m blaming Backstreet Boys for making boys gay. Tupac for making gangsters. Garth Brooks for making people depressed. Lady Gaga for people with bad fashion decisions. Eminem for making men beat their women.
I mean, where were the parents while these kids were making homemade bombs? Should we blame it on the teachers for not noticing something ‘wrong’ with these kids?
No, quit blaming. I hate to be the negative one here or sound cold; but people sometimes are nuts. We are in a cruel world. What do you expect with video games that show men killing prostitutes, our cartoons having killing, movies that make us numb to when they should be breaking our hearts. So before you go blaming Marilyn Manson for making music (which he is fully entitled to do. Holler for freedom!), maybe you should take things for what they really are. No one likes to think that those kids were just completed effed up- they want to point fingers and make excuses. No, those kids get everything they deserve, maybe plus some. Just saying.
Ok story time.
I got my license at 17, I’m 20 now, and I’ve only had a seatbelt ticket and a moving violation [which was a speeding ticket, but my good ol’ boss took care of that for me]. So, I have a pretty decent driving record. However, when I was 17, I was driving Rachael’s mom’s car and I went to pick up Rachael from Marble Slab; which was her place of employment at that time. I got out of the car and was walking up to the building when a man comes screaming at me: "YOUR CAR IS DRIVING AWAY!" Startled, I turn around and yep, this excited man was indeed correct, my car was rolling away [no, not driving away. No one was driving it, it was rolling. So half correct I should say.] Luckily, [depending how you’d like to look at this situation] it hit the back of another car and stopped rolling. Making this long story short- we had to call the police and what not and I had to help pay the difference in the new insurance amount every month. And while I’m on this topic, I guess I’ll go ahead and get this off my chest. When it happened, a witness said, “well you must not have put the car in park. [Yes, I gave my “no shit” look.] It’s probably in neutral and it just rolled because of the hill.” I went with that story. Truth is, when I got in the car after the roll and hit, I realized that it was actually in reverse. I know I just said we shouldn’t blame, but really, why put reverse one level under park? I think that’s asking for trouble.
Fast forward to yesterday. Guess what I did. Hit a parked car. But this time, I was actually driving it, it wasn’t just rolling. In my defense, this car came out of nowhere. I was backing up and I felt a nudge, I look behind me, and it's a car. AND the sun was shining- I have been living in dark days of Ohio winter, my eyes were not fully adjusted yet. Thankfully, no damage was done to either party's car and I got to drive (safely and carefully) away.
